Snowman Paper Plate Wreath Craft
This fun Winter craft project is great for preschoolers working on fine motor skills, and makes for an adorable keepsake you can display all season long.
In every homeschool unit I create, we do some open-ended process art projects as well as some structured crafting. I cannot stress the importance of process art enough. It’s best to make sure we’re including activities that are developmentally appropriate, and in many cases, parents are shocked to see that their child isn’t interested in crafts.
Crafts with an end goal, or art projects in which you’re doing more than half of the work are not usually developmentally appropriate. My son didn’t show an interest in crafts with an end goal until he was 3 and a half years old. My daughter has shown zero interest because it’s just not appropriate for her yet at 19 months old.

Why do I say all of this? Well, this craft took a whole lot of help from Mama, as you can tell. To be fair, the idea was that my son would decorate the hat and draw his own face, but he was not interested. He wanted to do the cotton balls and that was about it.
And that’s okay too! It’s certainly not my favorite piece to display, since there’s very little of my son’s artistic expression shining through, but that’s okay. We achieved the goal, which was one-on-one time, fine motor development, and a discussion about snowmen.

Snowman Paper Plate Wreath Craft
To make this craft, first, keep in mind that your preschooler may not be ready for such a complicated project, and let go of your expectations of what it should look like. Grab som scissors, glue, markers, and cotton balls and have some fun!
Here’s how it worked out for us.
How to make snowman paper plate wreath craft:
1. Cut the center out of a paper plate, and use it as the head of the snowman.
2. Cut a hat and scarf out of construction paper, and glue onto the head of the snowman. The scarf makes for a great connecting point for the head and body, and covers up the glue.
3. Draw the face of the snowman with markers, making sure to offer this opportunity to your child.
4. Add glue to the paper plate snowman body, and provide your preschooler with cotton balls.
Done! Your snowman wreath craft is complete. Allow time for it to fully dry before hanging it up.
