Space Sensory Bin for Preschoolers

This easy space sensory bin is great for preschoolers and kids learning about space and planets. The black beans are perfect to represent the dark sky, and from there you can add small plastic planets for endless fun.

I’ve been looking forward to making a space sensory bin for months now, simply because we’ve never made anything like it before! I’ve made tons of sensory bins, but nothing like this.

I remember the first time I saw black beans used for an outer space themed sensory bin, I seriously thought it was the most clever thing ever! And, while my final bin didn’t end up looking super Instagram-worthy, it was still super popular with my son throughout our unit.

That’s what matters at the end of the day, anyway.

To a wooden tray, I added black beans, planets, and a couple of printouts from my I-Spy Busy Bag Set. Done! It’s really that simple.

  1. Hi, thank you so much for this great and simple idea. I’m very new to this type of activities but I’m excited to try it. My son has been really interested in planets lately. My question is how do you present it to them or what do they do with the pin besides sensory? Thanks again!
